Biography
-
Dr. Feten Slimeni is a postdoctoral researcher at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) within the OPERA-WCG group, where she joined in August 2026 through the IRIS COFUND programme. She holds a PhD in Applied Sciences from the Royal Military Academy of Brussels (ERM, 2017), a Master in Electronic Systems and Communication Networks from the Polytechnic School of Tunisia, and a Telecommunications Engineering degree from the Aviation School of Borj El Amri.
Before joining ULB, she worked on R&D IT Projects at the Military Research Center in Tunisia, on RF sensing, jamming, and drone detection using software-defined radio and machine learning. She has been involved in several projects, including the STa2D and A Defender anti-drone systems. Her research interests include passive radar, cognitive radio, anti-jamming techniques, and RF signal classification. -

Research topic: Passive radar for UAV detection and tracking
My research focuses on passive radar systems for the detection and tracking of drones, exploiting non-cooperative illuminators of opportunity such as DVB-T2, 4G, and 5G low-band signals.
The work involves:- Reference signal reconstruction and echo signal acquisition using USRP X310/X410 platforms,
- Antenna array design for beamforming and tracking,
- Signal processing for target detection in complex environments.
This research builds on my previous experience in RF sensing, jamming, and drone detection at the Military Research Center (Tunisia) and my PhD at the Royal Military Academy of Brussels (ERM). -
